I have always loved jeans. I love clothes. And I have had the good fortune to work in two fields where clothes are treated as forms of expression and creativity. (Both film and fashion). I am an actress and a fit model. I started working as a fit model about ten years ago, fitting Calvin Klein jeans for a company called Azteca.
Having just finished an independent movie, I was wondering what I was going to do to pay bills in between acting jobs. I had recently moved from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles to pursue a film career.
One day, sitting alone in a café in Studio City, two guys walked up to my table and asked, “Are you an actress or a model.” A classic line. Usually followed by. “What's your number?”(lol).
However, one of them really did want to know if I had ever considered being a fit model. I had done some print work in the past, but I had no clue what he was talking about. Unless you work in the garment industry, most people don't know about fit models.
Fit models work directly with a designer and a pattern maker. A fit model tries the garment on her body and together, with the designer, changes and adjusts the fit for production.
It comes down to a simple truth; if you try on a pair of jeans, (or any other garment for that matter) and they don't fit you, chances are that you won't buy them. Well I'm off to the Cannes Film Festival next week. I will be wearing my sexy Joe's Jeans.
My movie “Kenmore Ave” screened at Cannes last year. I was filming another project, so I missed being there. This year I'm going to make up for it. I'll be swinging from the chandeliers in my Joe's Jeans. I'll bring back lots of photos of the beautiful French Riviera and post them later!
