It's Monday morning and I'm standing in my closet. I've been standing in my closet, frozen just staring at all of my old disgusting clothes for the past 5 minutes. I roll my hand along some old skirts that would require me shaving my legs and wearing cute but uncomfortable shoes. I work at a very popular Women's Fashion Magazine and I need to be there early today, but I've got nothing to wear. Nothing. All weekend I was as comfy as can be in my favorite jeans, tank top, zip up hoodie, soft socks and sneakers. Saturdays and Sundays I roll out of bed, and slip into my uniform. I never give what I'm going to wear or what my husband or friends might think of me in the same old jeans another thought. I love them. The jeans are a nice straight-legged dark wash that have a little stretch in them and fall perfectly below my ankle. They are slim but don’t pinch or confine me at all. I wear them on airplanes and prefer their comfort even to sweats because I know I can wear them out if I need to leave the house or go out to eat. It's Monday and I quite can't snap myself into work mode so I slip them on and think, OK if I wear them with my new patent leather flats and a black shirt they are totally dressy enough for work. Tuesday rolls around and I’m feeling depressed. I already wore the jeans this week so what do I do now? If I wear them again will anyone really notice? I have a meeting with the fashion director today to look over some recent red carpet film. He’s way too self involved to notice me. I slip the jeans on again and work the outfit out from there. I put on a long button down shirtdress that covers the pockets so the jeans are really looking like leggings today. They are totally taking a back seat. Wednesday I pair them with a vintage t-shirt, black jacket and converse. Rocker chick. Thursday with a sweater and boots and Friday with a blazer and gold flats. I’m sure the gossipy girls in the fashion or beauty department noticed, but nobody said anything and I just played dumb. I found that getting dressed no longer felt like a horrible chore. I was happy wearing the same pants everyday. That’s the beauty of jeans – you don’t have to wash them and they really can make you happy. |
